The 2020 Clemson football recruiting class picked up another huge commitment Monday night when 5-star DB Fred Davis picked the Tigers.

Clemson football had been the leader for 5-star DB Fred Davis for quite some time before the talented prospect officially made his decision Monday night.

Davis, the No. 3-rated cornerback in the nation by both Rivals and 247 Sports, had visited Tiger Town several times in the past few months. His final visit came this past weekend for the Clemson football spring game.

Shortly after visiting Tiger Town Saturday afternoon, Davis announced that he would be announcing his commitment decision, choosing Clemson Monday night.

Analysis:

Davis is rated as a 5-star by Rivals, and highly-ranked 4-star by 247 Sports’ Composite Rankings. If you ask me, he’ll be a 5-star by 247 Sports the next time that rankings are updated.

With that being said, there’s a reason that Davis is so highly rated.

As far as cornerbacks in this 2020 class, he’s the best in coverage that I’ve seen. If you need a complete lockdown corner that can stick with the wide receiver with strong bursts of quickness and physicality, Davis fits the bill.

He is 6-foot-1, 182 pounds. With that frame, I’d expect him to put on a little more weight and play as a bit more physical cornerback.

Just like Andrew Booth- the 5-star CB from the 2019 class- I expect Davis to come in and make an impact right away. He’ll be joining a fairly deep defensive backfield, especially at cornerback, but he’ll find a way to get on the field.

Next. Where will each Clemson player be drafted?. dark

It will be interesting to watch how Davis progresses over his senior season. I’d like to see him put on a little bit of weight and continue to play at a physical, elite level.
