The Clemson football team held its annual spring game Saturday afternoon in front of a huge crowd in Death Valley. Here’s our instant analysis.

The Clemson football team held its annual spring game Saturday afternoon in Death Valley and there was a little bit of surprise.

The vast majority of Tiger fans expected the Orange Team to come away with the win, but it was the White Team, in fact, that proved victorious.

The White Team, led by QB Chase Brice, defeated the Orange Team by a final score of 30-10.

Here’s some of our instant analysis from the spring game Saturday afternoon.

  • Solid Defense

For the most part, I think the defense was really solid. Obviously, the spring game is set up to help the defense, but I still think both units played pretty well.

The defensive line and linebackers got in the backfield and created pressure. AJ Terrell had an interception. Overall, it was a good day for Tiger fans looking at what the defense may have available in the 2019 season.

One player that I was extremely impressed with was freshman Sheridan Jones. Jones had a pick-six and played hard the entire day. He had some really good plays and was possibly the player of the game.

  • DBs need to look for the ball

One area in the game that concerned me, though, was the defensive backs not locating the football. There were a lot of contact situations where the defensive back was in position, but never turned around and looked for the ball.

In a real game, that’s going to get called more times than not.

  • Chase Brice, Trevor Lawrence duel

Chase Brice and Trevor Lawrence both had the opportunity to play the entire first half in the spring game.

Both quarterbacks had some misses and both of them were victims of a few drops. Overall, it was what you’d expect from a scrimmage with split squads.

  • Abundance of talent

The final thought, honestly, is the abundance of talent that this 2019 Clemson football possesses. The Tigers have a ton of talent and the real key is if they’ll be able to develop leadership to keep the team focused.
