The 2021 NFL Draft is still two years away, but it’s clear that professional scouts are drooling over the talent and potential coming out of Clemson football.
Though the 2019 Clemson football season hasn’t even begun, it’s clear that the Tigers have some really talented sophomore talent.
We’re going to see those sophomores perform at a higher level this upcoming season and put themselves in position to be high draft picks in the 2021 NFL Draft, following their junior seasons.
When you look at the talent in Clemson football’s sophomore class, it poses an interesting question: How many top-10 picks could the Tigers have in the NFL Draft two years from now?
Analysis:
Honestly, it’s amazing to me to think that the Tigers still have two more years with this sophomore class.
When I look at the sophomores, I see several guys that could potentially be leaving after their junior seasons.
Those players include Trevor Lawrence, Justyn Ross, Xavier Thomas and Jackson Carman. Outside of those four, you could see Derion Kendrick, KJ Henry (who’d be a redshirt sophomore), Kyler McMichael or even Lyn-J Dixon emerge as candidates to leave early.
Right now, I see Trevor Lawrence, Xavier Thomas and Justyn Ross all as top-10 caliber draft picks. As a matter of fact, I believe that Lawrence will go No. 1 overall, while Ross and Thomas will go in the top-7.
Jackson Carman, if he develops into an elite offensive tackle as he is capable of, could be the first or second offensive tackle taken in the NFL Draft, as well. That would put him anywhere between pick 4-10.
That means we could potentially see four Clemson football players taken in the top-10 of the NFL Draft two years from now. I know that’s projecting way too far out, but this sophomore class is special and full of talent. You’re going to see them perform at high levels and I would be shocked to not see those guys go high in the draft a couple of years from now.
