Clemson Football: Where do the Tigers stand with 5-star Jordan Burch?
5-star Clemson football target Jordan Burch is believed to be favoring the Tigers, but could he be trending to in-state rival South Carolina?
The 2020 Clemson football recruiting class is already one of the top classes in the nation with the chance to be much better.
The Tigers are hosting several top prospects this weekend, including names like 5-star QB DJ Uiagalelei, 5-star DE Bryan Bresee, 4-star WR EJ Williams, 4-star DB RJ Mickens, 4-star DB Fred Davis and many others.
One player who reportedly won’t be in attendance for the spring game, though, is 5-star DE Jordan Burch.
Burch, according to several media outlets, has elected to attend the South Carolina football spring game this Saturday instead. Burch is believed to be choosing between the two in-state schools and, for a while, was considered to be heavily favoring the Tigers.
The last visit he took to Clemson was back in January. Since then, he took visits to Georgia and Alabama, and then to South Carolina last weekend and the weekend before.
The trend, if you were just looking at pure visits, was for him to be back in Tiger Town, but for the third-straight week, Burch will stay in Columbia and attend the Gamecocks’ spring game.
Burch does play at Hammond with Will Muschamp’s son and has a pretty tight relationship with the Gamecock head coach.
Those relationships could make a difference in his recruiting. I would truly say that this recruitment feels a little similar to Zacch Pickens, the Anderson product that chose South Carolina a few years ago.
Before Clemson football fans jump off ship, and before Gamecock fans declare victory, I do have to remind you of this simple fact: Xavier Thomas also elected to go to South Carolina’s spring game.
Anyway, Burch is extremely talented and the recruiting battle will continue into fall, most likely. Right now I’d say it’s 50/50 between Clemson football and the rival from Columbia. The last couple of visits aren’t necessarily indicative of anything, but they can’t be seen as a good sign to the Tigers’ recruitment either.
In addition to Burch, the Tigers are heavily recruiting two other 5-star DEs in Bryan Bresee and Myles Murphy.
