Clemson football wide receiver Amari Rodgers will reportedly undergo an MRI after suffering an injury in practice Monday afternoon.

The Clemson football team returned to the practice field Monday afternoon after having last week off for spring break.

While it seems that everything else was great, there was some somber news coming out of the practice.

According to multiple reports, including Tiger Illustrated’s Larry Williams, Tiger wide receiver Amari Rodgers will undergo an MRI after being carried off the field during practice Monday afternoon. While the extent or type of injury hasn’t been revealed, it is rumored that the coaching staff fear an ACL tear.

Should it be an ACL tear, the recovery time for Rodgers would be between six to nine months, which would put him getting back some time between September and December. Plus he’d need to work into football shape and get back into the rotation at wide receiver.

As said above, though, the extent or type of injury has not been revealed as of yet.

If Rodgers does miss the majority of the season, he could apply for a medical hardship redshirt to save a year of eligibility. He was entering his junior season, so he’d still have two years of eligibility remaining should the injury force him to miss this season and should he choose to go that route.

Rodgers could also come back later next season and play in up to four games and still redshirt. If he was back in, say, late November, you could see him play in the last game of the regular season and still have eligibility for the postseason, which could include the ACC Championship game and potentially two games in the College Football Playoff if the Tigers make it back.

Rodgers was working at that slot position. Derion Kendrick has been playing cornerback, but I’d expect to see him transition over and work some out of that slot.

Other options include Diondre Overton (who will most likely play boundary), TJ Chase, Cornell Powell, and three freshmen in Frank Ladson, Joe Ngata and Brannon Spector.

In 2018, Rodgers had 55 receptions for 575 yards and four touchdowns.
