2 Chainz’ track “2 Dollar Bill” is an incredible song. It’s also the perfect track for Clemson football to bump over the PA during games in the 2019 season.

2 Chainz, a popular rapper, released a new album last week.  I like it a lot.  But that’s not what I’m writing about.  What I want to draw you attention to is that there is track on there called “2 Dollar Bill“.

It is a very good song.  It features Lil Wayne and E-40, and they are great in general and also on this track, with some fantastic lines.  But that’s not what I’m writing about.

I’m writing about the fact that this song is made for Clemson Football.  The song goes so hard (DJ Mustar killed it).  A beat that’s part trap, mostly g-funk.  The chorus (“Like a two dollar bill I’m rare”) describes Clemson football to a T.  And if you know Clemson traditions, you know the $2 bill plays an important part in our traveling habits.

As the story goes, the fine folks at one of the universities in Atlanta decided that they didn’t want to play Clemson anymore.  The reason for this isn’t quite clear, but an idea floated out there is that Clemson didn’t travel well.

Further, when fans came to town, they didn’t bring too much money in.  We were also coming off of a bunch of mediocre seasons too. Anyway, the fans that traveled to ATL brought with them $2 bills to spend and make their presence felt by the merchants in the Georgia Tech area.

An aside: one time two friends and I went up to a game at BC and my friends brought a stack of $2 bills with them.  When they went to pay for their food, they paid entirely in $2 bills.  When the cashier saw that, he asked if they had just gotten back from a strip club.  Evidently, at some strip clubs in the greater Boston area, the ATMs distribute $2 bills instead of $1 bills because the cost of living is higher in Boston than in other areas.  Or maybe the cashier had no idea what he was talking about.  I haven’t done the research to know that this is true (as far as you know), but it makes sense.  Something to keep in mind the next time your at the club in Boston, I guess.

Anyway, since then, it has been a tradition to bring $2 bills to away games to let merchants know who’s been to town.

That might make sense in small places, but I really don’t know if a bartender in Miami is going to think anything of the $2 bills sliding into his register.  He probably doesn’t care that his tips are in a funny denomination either, as long as its valid tender.  But what do I know?  It’s a fun tradition either way.

So the point I’m getting at is that if I don’t hear “2 Dollar Bill” bumping over the PA this season, I’m going to be angry.  Does anyone remember how the D-line went nuts (RIP Cory Groover) when “Laffy Taffy” was played?  (Shut up, I’m old).  And that didn’t have anything to do with a Clemson tradition!  “2 Dollar Bill” is made for us.  Know what’s rare?  Back-to-back ‘ships.  That’s what’s rare.

Let’s bump 2 Chainz’ (2 Chainz’s?) “2 Dollar Bill”.  It is perfection on all levels.
