The 2020 Clemson football recruiting class received big news Monday evening when 4-star offensive lineman Mitchell Mayes announced his commitment.

The 2020 Clemson football recruiting class is continuing to grow.

The Tigers received their fourth 4-star commitment along the offensive line Monday evening when talented offensive line prospect Mitchell Mayes announced his commitment to Clemson football.

Mayes, a product of Raleigh, North Carolina, currently checks in at about 6-foot-5 and 315 pounds.

The Tigers were believed to be the favorite over schools like North Carolina, NC State, Auburn and Georgia for quite some time and he made it official Monday night.

What does it mean for the Tigers?

Mayes is a consensus 4-star prospect no matter who you go by and is considering one of the top offensive guards in the nation. As a matter of fact, he is considered the No. 3 guard in the nation by 247 sports, but is also rated as the No. 4 tackle in the nation by ESPN.

He is capable of playing either position in college and I think it’ll be interesting to see where the Tigers choose to place him when he gets on campus next year. When watching his film, you can see that has a great frame and really good foot work.

He’ll need some work in pass-protection at the collegiate level, but he is very strong and does a great job driving his man off the ball.

Mayes is the fourth 4-star offensive lineman to commit to Clemson football. He joins Paul Tchio, Walker Parks and John Williams in this 2020 class. According to 247 sports, Mayes is the highest-rated lineman of the Tigers’ recruiting class and the second-highest rated player overall of all the commitments, just behind Demonte Capehart, a 4-star defensive tackle.

He certainly has the talent, measurables and capability of developing into a special talent before it’s all said and done.
