Could the Clemson basketball team find a way to knock off the red-hot UNC Tarheels at home? It’s certainly not likely, but here’s how it can happen.

North Carolina is playing like a final four type team right now.

The Tarheels have won four in a row and are sitting in second place in the ACC (13-2) behind just Virginia, who has the tiebreaker over the Heels from a game earlier in February.

UNC is a top-five team in the country and they are playing with a confidence through the roof since knocking off Duke a week and a half ago.

Clemson basketball is on a two-game winning streak, but that’s coming off a time where they had lost three-straight beforehand.

So, can the Tigers find a way to upset the Tarheels on Saturday at home?

The path to victory:

Clemson basketball has had basically no luck this season. The Tigers lost to NC State on a buzzer-beater on the road. They also lost games to Miami at  buzzer on the road and a heart breaker against Louisville, another one-point loss.

At some point, you’d like to think that it would bounce back the other way. Maybe, this is the game.

As far as actual basketball is concerned, though, Clemson will have to refrain from turning the ball over and will need Elijah Thomas to stay out of foul trouble. Offensively, you need to hit some threes and, defensively, you’ll need to guard well and force the Tarheels to take tough shots.

If the Tigers can do these things, they’ll have a chance to stay in the game against UNC and possibly reel off an upset with the help of a raucous crowd and a few timely shots.

It’s going to take a near perfect performance, in my opinion, but the game of basketball is a weird sport and things don’t go as they would appear on paper.
