Clemson football quarterback Trevor Lawrence is now No. 2 in the updated Heisman odds, which actually might not be a bad thing for his chances.

According to the latest Heisman odds- first reported by ESPN College Football- Trevor Lawrence is no longer the favorite to win the prestigious award.

We’re going to hear about updated Heisman odds races throughout the entire offseason and through the regular season, so this won’t be anything new.

But, in Westgate Las Vegas SuperBook, Trevor Lawrence is now No. 2 behind Alabama’s Tua Tagovailoa to win the Heisman.

Here’s a look at the odds…

  • Tua Tagovailoa, Alabama (5-2)
  • Trevor Lawrence, Clemson (3-1)
  • Jalen Hurts, Oklahoma (6-1)
  • Justin Fields, Ohio State (6-1)

Thoughts:

It’s crazy to me that people would be betting in favor of Tua Tagovailoa to win the Heisman despite just seeing what Trevor Lawrence was capable of doing. It’s clear, though, that money is going in on Tua. Clemson football just beat the brains in of Alabama and I guess people believe that is going to have the Crimson Tide come out and play with revenge on their mind this season.

That’s the only sense I can make of it.

Tagovailoa is a talented quarterback, no doubt, but I just don’t think he compares to Trevor Lawrence. Lawrence has a much stronger arm and does a better job in his selection. The two will continue to battle it out for the prestigious award and I don’t think there’s any doubt the selection will come down to those two when it’s all said and done in New York.

It’s interesting to me that Justin Fields- who hasn’t even started a game- is third on the list, tied with Jalen Hurts, who was the second-string quarterback at Alabama for the entire 2018 season. Neither of those guys seem Heisman-worthy, in my opinion.
