As we continue our redshirt report for the Clemson football team in 2018, here’s a look at Tiger wide receiver Cornell Powell.

Over the next couple of weeks, we will be giving you our redshirt report for Clemson football in 2018.

We’ll be taking a look at each of the guys that redshirted during the 2018 season and then analyzing where they fit coming into the 2019 season.

While most of the players will be redshirt freshmen this coming year, two guys are now considered redshirt juniors: LB Jamie Skalski and WR Cornell Powell.

We kicked off our redshirt report looking at Jamie Skalski. Now, let’s take a look at Cornell Powell.

Clemson Football Redshirt Report:

Name: Cornell Powell

Position: Wide Receiver

Hometown: Greenville, North Carolina

Height: 6-0

Weight: 210

Analysis:

Cornell Powell is a very talented guy that has just been victim to being part of an even more talented position group.

While many speculated that Powell could be transferring after redshirting in 2018, it seems that he is excited about his future with Clemson football and having two years of eligibility remaining to perfect his craft.

Assuming he stays, Powell will join a very loaded wide receiver corp. You’ll have guys like Tee Higgins, Amari Rodgers, Justyn Ross, Diondre Overton, Derion Kendrick and others, as well. Powell could potentially get some playing time at the slot or possibly as a second-string guy behind an Amari Rodgers.

A possible position change?

This is all just speculation. There has been no confirmation of this or anything of the sort. But, could Cornell Powell potentially move to defensive back?

The Tigers don’t have a ton of depth and he could be a very solid safety or possibly cornerback. I think he’d find more ways to get on the field from that spot.

It will be interesting to watch heading into spring practice just what Powell decides to do and if he’s able to find a niche to earn some more playing time. He’s certainly capable of being a play-maker for the Tigers.
