How is the roster shaping for Clemson football in 2019? Here’s an early look at the scholarship breakdown for the Tigers heading into the offseason.

The 2019 Clemson football team has a chance to be special.

The Tigers will be looking to repeat as National Champions and will be carrying a 15-game win streak into the season.

Clemson will be favored in every game this season, most of them by double-digits and the Tigers will be a popular pick to make it back to the College Football Playoff.

Here’s a breakdown of Clemson football’s early scholarship totals heading into the 2019 season. After National Signing Day, we’ll have an in-depth position-by-position breakdown for you looking at the scholarships when we know a little more.

Clemson Football Scholarship Breakdown:

Offense (39):

  • Quarterbacks (4)
  • Running Backs (5)
  • Wide Receivers (10)
  • Tight Ends (5)
  • Offensive Line (15)

Currently, you’ve got 39 players on scholarship offensively. That includes all the incoming freshmen. Right now, we’re waiting to see if a couple of scholarships will be renewed and if there will be any attrition.

Tavien Feaster (running back) is considering transferring. If Feaster leaves, that would open up a scholarship spot for the Tigers. You could also see a transfer at that wide receiver position.

In addition that, the tight ends could see a loss if Garrett Williams chose to forgo his senior season and join the military.

Defense (41)/Special Teams (5)

  • Defensive Tackle (6)
  • Defensive End (8)
  • Linebacker (11)
  • Safety (9)
  • Defensive Back (7)

The defense and special teams make up for 46 total scholarships. That puts our total right at 85. You may see one of those defensive ends move into defensive tackle, but overall I’d expect these numbers to stay about the same.

The Tigers lost several guys who chose to leave early to the NFL, but most of those were expected.

Breakdown by Class:

  • Seniors (14)
  • Juniors (19)
  • Sophomores (18)
  • Freshmen/Redshirt Freshmen (34)

It’s amazing to me to see that freshman number. There are currently seven redshirt freshmen, so those guys are technically sophomores academically, but they have the same amount of eligibility as the incoming freshmen.

Next. Wilkins-Lawrence duo was historically dominant. dark

Overall, this is still a very young team. You’re going to see a lot of those freshmen (redshirt or true) playing early. It should be fun to watch them compete and make a difference on this team this upcoming season.
