Clemson football defensive back Mark Fields came into the game in the second half and played very well, perhaps earning some money for himself along the way.

Things didn’t go exactly as planned for Clemson football cornerback Mark Fields in his career as a Tiger.

Though Fields was a consensus 4-star out of High School, he never was able to lock down a starting spot at one of the Tiger corners.

He continued to show improvement throughout his career, though, and because of that, he will walk away from his Clemson football career as a success- a two-time National Champion.

There’s no doubt in my mind that Fields increased his NFL Draft stock Monday night when the Tigers defeated Alabama in the National Championship.

Fields came in for Trayvon Mullen after Mullen went down with cramps and Alabama didn’t take any time going right after him.

Fields was able to break up a pass there in the third quarter where Alabama was attempting to make a run. He played lights out and now has some really good film to show NFL scouts.

In his time as a backup cornerback- who played a bunch of reps- Fields continued to improve. He didn’t give up or stop working. He was on the field in some huge moments during the season and that’s because of his talent and raw ability.

While Fields won’t be taken in the first few rounds of the NFL Draft, his performance against Alabama has vaulted him up the draft board of many NFL teams. Currently, he’s rated as high as the No. 11 cornerback in the upcoming draft, but I believe he’ll have a chance to move up the ranks as we get into combines and pro days.

It will be interesting to see what kind of NFL cornerback he can become. I think Fields can develop into a very good defensive back with time and it should be fun to watch him compete here in the near future.
