To no one’s surprise, Clemson football finished No. 1 in the nation in the final AP Poll for the 2018 season after beating Alabama Monday night.

Clemson football was the best team in the nation this season.

While the Tigers certainly had their struggles, they proved in the CFB Playoff that they were, indeed, the best team in all of College Football and the margin may not have even been close.

Clemson had a prolific offensive attack with young skill position players like Tee Higgins, Travis Etienne, Justyn Ross, Hunter Renfrow and Amari Rodgers, all led by freshman quarterback Trevor Lawrence.

The offensive line continued to improve all season and came away with a very impressive performance in the National Championship game against a physical Bama defensive front.

On the defensive side of the ball, the Tigers were led by one of the best lines in the country. Christian Wilkins, Clelin Ferrell, Austin Bryant, Dexter Lawrence (who couldn’t play in the playoff), Xavier Thomas, Albert Huggins and a host of others were dominant all season.

Clemson had a great group of linebackers and the secondary showed up and played very well in the playoff after having a few struggles during the regular season.

All of that combined gave the Tigers the best team in the country. Here’s a look at the final AP-Top 10. The entire rankings were released Tuesday morning.

1. Clemson (61)

2. Alabama

3. Ohio State

4. Oklahoma

5. Notre Dame

6. LSU

7 (tie). Florida

7 (tie). Georgia

9. Texas

10 Washington State

Thoughts:

Even after Clemson football completely destroyed Alabama, the AP continues to over rank the SEC. You can’t tell me that Georgia deserves to be ranked ahead of Texas when the last time I checked, the two teams played. And Georgia didn’t win.

LSU beat UCF, so I understand how they moved up, but we all know that neither LSU nor Florida were truly top-7 teams this season.

Ohio State moved up to No. 3, which is okay, I guess. Overall, though, the main thing that matters is the No. 1 spot.

Your Clemson Tigers are atop the AP Poll and will receive another trophy for being named the AP National Champions.
