Clemson football will take on Alabama in the CFB Playoff for a fourth-straight year. Is the annual matchup bad for the sport of College Football?

The winner of Clemson-Alabama has determined the National Champion the last three years and that won’t change this year, either.

Clemson football squared off against Alabama in the 2015 and 2016 National Championships with the two teams splitting the matchups.

Last year, the Tigers and the Tide matched up in the Sugar Bowl for the CFB Playoff semifinals. Alabama came away with the win and then went on to beat Georgia for the National Title.

This time, the two teams will play again in the 2018 National Championship game.

There have been talks among fans and analysts around the country about if the annual matchup between the Tigers and the Crimson Tide is bad for College Football. Some say that it’s reason for playoff expansion. Others say that it’s isolating different parts of the country, which will lead to lost revenue for the sport.

I understand the argument.

I mean, it’s all fun here in Clemson football country. I’d imagine that every single Tiger and Alabama fan would be completely fine with the two teams matching up every year. But, over the west- for example- they probably couldn’t care less about seeing the two teams match up for a fourth-straight time.

It would be nice, as a College Football fan, to see the return of many prominent programs. Perhaps programs like Texas, Florida, Michigan, Ohio State, Florida State, USC and Notre Dame could join the ranks of Alabama and Clemson in the future. Georgia and Oklahoma seemingly are getting there, at least in some ways.

But, that’s the thing.

It’s up to the other programs to beat Alabama and Clemson. Nobody has been able to do it yet and there’s a reason for that.

The two best teams- not just teams, but programs- in the nation are Alabama and Clemson. They are heads and shoulders better than everyone else. After that, it’s Georgia, in my opinion.

So, the question. Is seeing Alabama and Clemson play every year bad for College Football?

Well, here’s the answer: If you don’t want the two best teams to play in the championship game, how about your program become one of the best teams? Right now, Bama and Clemson are better than everyone else and the challenge has been issued. Until then, the best thing for the sport of College Football is for the two best teams to continue to play and dominate as they have.
