5-star Clemson football quarterback target DJ Uiagalelei named his top schools. The Tigers made the talented athlete’s shortlist.

The 2020 Clemson football recruiting cycle is in full swing.

While there are a couple of targets left in the 2019 class, the Clemson coaching staff has certainly turned its attention to the 2020 class.

The top target- at least as far as stars are concerned- is 5-star quarterback DJ Uiagalelei. The talented prospect out of Bellflower, California announced his top schools last night and the Tigers made the shortlist.

Here’s a look at his top schools and our early thoughts on his recruitment.

In no particular order, Uiagalelei announced that his top schools were Oklahoma, LSU, Oregon, Mt. San Antonio College, Alabama, Clemson and Georgia.

He visited Clemson during the Tigers’ win over in-state rival South Carolina back in November. The Clemson coaching staff also paid him a visit in California in December.

Thoughts:

Right now, I believe that the Tigers are the favorite to win his services. It’s clear that the coaches are heavily recruiting him.

Competing for his services, in my opinion, is probably Oregon and Alabama. The Ducks, in particular, are said to be on the right said of his recruitment right now.

The 5-star quarterback is, in my opinion, a mix between Trevor Lawrence and Tajh Boyd. He has great athleticism and strength in the running game with superb power and accuracy in the passing game.

Believe it or not, his arm may actually be a bit stronger than Trevor Lawrence’s. He is a huge body that will be more than capable of running that read-option attack that Clemson likes to run.

It will be interesting to see how Uiagalelei’s recruitment unfolds. Make sure you check back here on Rubbing the Rock for more updates and analysis heading into Clemson football’s matchup with Alabama in the National Championship.
