Clemson football 2019 target Will Putnam is nearing a decision. The 4-star offensive lineman will be announcing his commitment soon.

The 2019 Clemson football recruiting class is coming together nicely. The Tigers’ class is one of the top five in the nation and they’ve done a great job addressing the needs in the class.

Two areas in which the Clemson football staff would like to pick up a couple more commitments, though, is on the lines of scrimmage.

At both defensive tackle and offensive line, the Tigers are in need of a little bit of quality depth. They’ll be fine should they not sign a couple of these top targets, but it certainly wouldn’t hurt to pick up a couple of commitments.

The Tigers’ top offensive line target is 4-star Will Putnam. Putnam is down to three schools: Clemson, Florida State and Auburn.

The prospect is expected to announce his commitment on Dec. 20, but we may actually know who the school is here in the next few days.

Putnam is a state wrestling champion and an early enrollee. I think he’d be a good fit at Clemson football, but it’s tough to really know where he stands right now.

He’ll probably need to put on some weight as he currently weighs in at 265 and he’s probably not the type of guy that comes in and starts right away, but I do think he could provide some much-needed depth even as a freshman.

Crystal Ball:

Right now, it truly does seem like a tie between all three schools for Putnam. 247 Sports has Florida State as the leader and that may make sense, but it wouldn’t surprise me at all to see him choose Auburn or Clemson at this point.

It’ll be interesting to see where he goes and what his decision means for Clemson football recruiting moving forward through the rest of the 2019 cycle.
