Many Ohio State fans believe Clemson football head coach Dabo Swinney would coach the Buckeyes if the opportunity had been presented to him.

Clemson football head coach Dabo Swinney has taken the Tiger program to new levels.

Since taking over, Swinney has gone on to lead the Tigers to four-straight College Football Playoff berths, a National Championship and five ACC titles.

While Swinney has clearly enjoyed his time at Clemson and is looking to continue to build the program, many other fans from around the country think he’d leave Tiger Town at the drop of a hat.

It was announced earlier this week that Urban Meyer, coach of Ohio State, would be retiring because of health reasons. Many Buckeye fans believed that OSU should reach out to Dabo Swinney.

Thoughts:

First, let’s point out that Ohio State also announced that Ryan Day would be taking over as the coach of the Buckeyes. Ohio State is going for a younger, new look program and I think they’re really trying to catch the same kind of lightning in a bottle that Clemson caught with Dabo Swinney.

So, no matter what talk or speculation fans have, it’s clear that OSU wants to take a chance on Day.

To me, though, the one thing that I just can’t understand is why people just automatically believe Ohio State is a better job than Clemson.

Why would Dabo Swinney want to take over a program that he’s going to have to take time to build versus a program in Clemson that he has already built? I understand that Ohio State has a ton of money and great fan support, but how much more money can you really offer compared to what Swinney is already making at Clemson?

In my opinion, there’s only one job that Dabo Swinney would ever consider leaving Clemson for and that’s Alabama. No other program- no matter how prestigious or important they think they are- is going to lure Dabo away from Clemson.

You can believe what you want, but there’s something special about this Clemson football program. It’s about more than just money and Tiger Town offers Dabo much more than anyone from up in Ohio will ever understand.
