Clemson football quarterback Trevor Lawrence still has two more years as a Tiger and he could beat Deshaun Watson’s records.

Trevor Lawrence already holds basically all of the freshman passing records for Clemson football.

He leads the Tigers in most touchdowns thrown by a freshman, passing yardage for a freshman and several other records. In school history, Lawrence’s season is already good enough for ninth best in passing yards and seventh best in passing touchdowns.

He’s got a chance to move up the list still with at least one more game to go on the season.

When comparing his stats, it’s clear that Lawrence is on trajectory to break some of Deshaun Watson’s passing stats and perhaps even find a way to break records set by Tajh Boyd before it’s all said and done.

Trevor Lawrence- Record Breaker:

Lawrence currently has completed 212-of-327 attempts (65 percent) for 2,606 passing yards and 24 touchdowns to just four interceptions. That’s good enough for a QB Rating of 153.5.

Let’s compare that to Deshaun Watson’s final numbers as a junior: Watson finished that season completing 388-of-579 attempts (67 percent) for 4,593 yards and 41 touchdowns to 17 interceptions, good enough for a QB Rating of 151.5.

Watson threw the ball 250 more times than Lawrence that season and had about double the stats in the process, but Lawrence still had a higher QB Rating- as a freshman- and tied Watson in yards per attempt (8.0). All of this is comparing Lawrence’s freshman season to Watson’s junior season.

Deshaun actually had much better yards per attempt and QB Rating numbers as a freshman and sophomore, though, and I think that should be pointed out.

When looking at the numbers, though, I think we see that there’s a great chance that Trevor Lawrence comes close to Watson’s passing totals (10,168 passing yards, 90 touchdown passes) before it’s all said and done.

He may even find a way to compete with Tajh Boyd (11,904 passing yards, 107 touchdowns) before it’s all said and done.

Lawrence is on trajectory to beat some of the Tiger greats and certainly should be able to finish in the top-three all-time. If he continues to take steps forward, though, we could see Trevor Lawrence leave the Clemson football program as the top passer to ever step foot on campus. All in three years time.

That’s how good Trevor Lawrence has the potential to be.
