The CFB Playoff committee considered flipping Clemson football to No. 1 in the nation over the Alabama Crimson Tide in its latest rankings.

According to a report by ESPN’s Heather Dinich, the College Football Playoff committee considered Clemson for the No. 1 spot in its latest rankings.

The CFB Playoff committee released its latest rankings Tuesday night and there were no major changes.

As a matter of fact, there was no movement in the top-six for a third-straight week. Talk about boring, right?

Dinich did publish something interesting, though, about the top-two.

Comparing the two…

I’m not sure anyone can really make the argument for No. 1 right now besides Alabama. It’s interesting, though, that the playoff committee at least believes that the Tigers should be in that mix.

I think Clemson and Alabama are peers. The Tigers, in my opinion, are just as good as the Crimson Tide and can compete with Alabama in all aspects on the game. I’m surprised, though, that the committee would think so.

This committee has been very pro-SEC.

They have LSU ranked No. 7 in the country ahead of Washington State even though the Tigers have two losses. The still have Florida at No. 11 despite the Gators showing that they’re not worthy of being a top-15 team. They have Kentucky at No. 15 and Texas A&M at No. 22 despite neither of those teams really being worthy of their rankings.

So, with the pro-SEC tone that the rankings have shown, it would surprise me that the committee would think of Alabama and Clemson as peers. They also said that they believed that both Bama and Clemson are more complete teams than Notre Dame right now, which I agree 100 percent with.

Perhaps it’s just something they’re saying to stir up some drama since there isn’t any heading into rivalry week. Here’s a look at the latest top-10 in the College Football Playoff rankings:

  1. Alabama
  2. Clemson
  3. Notre Dame
  4. Michigan
  5. Georgia
  6. Oklahoma
  7. LSU
  8. Washington State
  9. UCF
  10. Ohio State
