The Clemson football team will host in-state rival South Carolina this Saturday in Death Valley to close out the 2018 regular season.

It’s rivalry week, but you wouldn’t know it if you were talking to Gamecock fans.

There have been very few comments from the South Carolina side heading into this one, mind you we’re still early in the week.

No Gamecock football player has said anything disrespectful to this point and, as a matter of fact, it’s been quite the opposite. The players who have been asked about the rivalry game have given all the right comments. They’ve talked about how they’ll need to prepare really well to beat a good Clemson football team.

That’s different.

The week is still young…

Normally by now, you have Gamecock fans all over social media and across your local communities talking about how this will be the year for South Carolina.

Normally, you have some Gamecock player saying something antagonizing toward the Clemson sideline. But, that hasn’t been the case so far.

Has it been that the South Carolina faithful and players have learned not to crow heading into the game against the Tigers?

Have the fans already chalked this one up as a loss? Are the players trying not to “poke the bear?”

If so, that program may have actually taken a step forward under Muschamp in a weird way. It’s just not a smart thing to taunt your rival as they’ve always done. Especially when that rival holds a 69-42-4 advantage over you in the all-time series.

It’s much better to keep quiet until you win or pull off the upset. But, even then, Gamecock fans shouldn’t expect to keep the trophy on their sideline very long because it always swings back in favor of Clemson.

It is interesting, though. I’m assuming we’ll hear some stuff later this week to get the rivalry going because right now it’s just not that fun. It seems that many Gamecock fans have gone AWOL. It’s time to return to at least get some heat going before the game Saturday.

I mean, the game only comes once a year and it’s certainly no fun for South Carolina fans to be rational.
