Clemson Football: Can Trevor Lawrence go undefeated against Gamecocks?

Can Trevor Lawrence be the next phenom quarterback for Clemson football to go undefeated in his career against South Carolina?

There have been two recent Clemson football quarterbacks to have extended success against in-state rival South Carolina.

Those two are Charlie Whitehurst and Deshaun Watson.

Both of those guys are considered two of the top quarterbacks in Clemson football history. Watson is the best and Whitehurst is certainly in the top-five, possibly the top-three.

Whitehurst has been known for years now as the guy who never lost to South Carolina, going 4-0 against the Gamecocks. Watson went 3-0 against South Carolina. One of his most notable victories came in his freshman year when he beat the Gamecocks with a torn ACL and ended the long streak that South Carolina had against Clemson.

Can Trevor Lawrence be the next Tiger quarterback to go undefeated in his career against in-state rival South Carolina?

Understanding the rivalry…

Lawrence may be from Georgia, but it hasn’t taken long for him to realize the importance and magnitude of this rivalry. He’ll come out this weekend with a much better team and a chance to get his career against South Carolina started out on the right foot.

In my opinion, Lawrence has the talent around him and the right mindset to become the next guy to beat South Carolina three years in a row.

If he does that, Clemson would actually extend its streak against South Carolina to seven wins after Lawrence’s junior season. That would actually tie the Tigers’ longest win streak in history vs. the Gamecocks.

It should be fun to see Lawrence go up against South Carolina over these next few years. This rivalry game is one of the checklist items for a guy to etch his name in the history books as a Tiger. Lawrence will have a chance to do just that beginning this Saturday.
