Clemson football freshman quarterback Trevor Lawrence was named the winner of the Leather Helmet Award following his performance against Boston College.

Each year, the MVP of the winner of the Clemson-Boston College game wins the Leather Helmet Award.

This season, that honor belongs to Clemson football freshman quarterback Trevor Lawrence. Lawrence led the Tigers to a 27-7 victory with 295 yards passing and a touchdown through the air, as well as on the ground. The freshman completed 73 percent of his passes and through one interception.

Lawrence is the second Clemson football freshman to win the award. Travis Etienne won the honor last season.

Start of something special…

Trevor Lawrence will play Boston College at least two more times in his career. I believe he could leave Clemson football winning the Leather Helmet Award all three years.

The freshman is special.

He’s still got some learning to do. On that interception throw, he made a bad decision. There were also a couple of other questionable decisions and his deep ball didn’t look great at times, but Lawrence has continued to progress and get better. I’ve got no doubt that the freshman will learn from his mistakes in this game and continue to build off of his successes.

Honestly, he hasn’t faced a defense with a pass-rush as good as Boston College’s all season. Not even Texas A&M, in my opinion, is as good as what the Eagles have on defense, especially at defensive end in Zach Allen.

We want to say congratulations to freshman Trevor Lawrence on winning the historical award between Clemson and Boston College. He certainly wears that helmet well and it’s something that, in my opinion, we’ll be seeing a lot more of in the coming years.

Trevor Lawrence and that Clemson football team will now return home to close out the season with a game against the Duke Blue Devils for Military Appreciation Day before taking on in-state rival South Carolina the following week.
