The Clemson football team survived a very gutsy performance from Boston College and won the ACC Atlantic Division as a result Saturday night.

Clemson football won the ACC Atlantic Division Saturday night with a 27-7 win over Boston College.

It certainly wasn’t the most crisp performance from the Tigers on offense, but the defense made up for the lack of production on the offensive side of the ball by pitching a shutout (the lone touchdown of the game for Boston College came off a punt return) and holding the Eagles to just 113 total yards.

Trevor Lawrence finished the day 29-of-40 for 295 yards and a touchdown, as well as an interception.

For yet another game, the Tigers were unable to get much going on the ground. Clemson finished with 129 rushing yards for the day and averaged just 4.3 yards per carry.

Luckily for the Tigers, the defense held Boston College to just 0.3 yards per carry.

Analysis:

You can’t complain any time you go on the road and beat a top-20 team by 20 points. This Boston College team could compete with a lot of the programs inside the top-10 right now.

With that being said, I can’t say that I didn’t walk away from this game feeling a bit underwhelmed.

The offense just didn’t look good and that all starts up-front. Obviously, Clemson was without starting left tackle Mitch Hyatt for most of the game, but that has nothing to do with a guy like Tremayne Anchrum routinely getting beat by Boston College’s pass-rushers.

It’s just disappointing to see that unit not playing well. They have the ability, but tonight they proved that they’ve still got a long way to go before being ready for Alabama.

Trevor Lawrence looked like a freshman at times, but made enough plays to pick up the win.

Defensively, though, you can’t talk enough about how good that unit was. The defensive line continued to get pressure all night and the Tigers just did their job, allowing Boston College just eight first downs the entire game.

dark. Next. Can anyone challenge Clemson or Bama in 2018?

What’s next?

Clemson will return home for Military Appreciation Day to take on the Duke Blue Devils. We’ll see the Tigers in purple uniforms and it should be a fun atmosphere as we have just two games remaining in the regular season before the Tigers head to Charlotte for the ACC Championship Game.
