He’ll never be mentioned for the Heisman Trophy, but Clemson football’s Christian Wilkins is the exact definition of what a Heisman looks like.

There are plenty of Clemson football players that will be mentioned in the Heisman conversation before their careers come to a close.

Trevor Lawrence and Travis Etienne are two that come to mind.

While those two will certainly be worthy of that honor, there is one Clemson football player that will never been in the discussion for the big trophy, but exhibits everything a Heisman winner should have.

That man is Christian Wilkins.

The definition of a Heisman…

To see what I’m talking about, here’s the official definition of the Heisman:

"The Heisman Memorial Trophy is awarded annually to the most outstanding player in college football in the United States whose performance best exhibits the pursuit of excellence with integrity. Winners epitomize great ability combined with diligence, perseverance, and hard work."

Christian Wilkins doesn’t pile up on the stat sheet. He isn’t the guy that’s going to have a monster amount of numbers. But he is the guy that will give you heart each and every play.

On the field, Wilkins is constantly in the backfield. He has a motor that never stops running. That motor and his pure-talent has led to plenty of sacks and tackles for loss, as well as breakups that don’t necessarily get noticed on the stat sheet.

He also plays special teams and works with his counterpart Dexter Lawrence in the jumbo package to score the Tigers some extra points and plays in short yardage situations.

But, what I love most about Wilkins is his love for the game and his love for teammates. Wilkins is the first guy to meet a player after he scores a touchdown. He’s a leader. As we’ve all heard, he decided to take Trevor Lawrence out to breakfast during the drama that unfolded the week that Kelly Bryant transferred.

He chose to come back for another season even after he had already graduated.

Wilkins loves the game of football and is a great role model both on-and-off the field. He is a winner that epitomizes exactly what a Heisman Trophy finalist should showcase.

Will we ever see Wilkins mentioned in that discussion? No. But, he is certainly deserving.
