The path to the College Football Playoff got a lot clearer for Clemson football following the carnage in the top-10 in week seven.

What is Clemson football’s path to the CFB Playoff? Every week we at Rubbing the Rock update you on what’s going on around the nation and how it will affect the Tigers’ playoff chances.

The short answer to this question is pretty clear: Keep winning.

Following the carnage in the top-10 in week seven, it became pretty clear that the Tigers are a top-three team in the nation and have pretty much set themselves apart as one of the few undefeated teams remaining.

Here’s a look, though, at the teams who still have a shot at the playoff heading into week eight of the College Football season, conference-by-conference.

*Teams with a star beside them are undefeated. All others have one loss. No two-loss teams are currently being considered.*

Path to the Playoff…

ACC: Clemson*, NC State*

Big Ten: Ohio State*, Michigan, Iowa

Big 12: Texas, Oklahoma, West Virginia

Pac-12: Oregon

SEC: Alabama*, LSU, Georgia, Florida

Other: Notre Dame*, UCF*

Analysis:

Clemson and NC State will take care of each other this week.

Ohio State and Michigan could very well knock themselves out and I’m honestly not sure that Iowa, even with one loss, would make the College Football Playoff.

In the Big 12, Texas, Oklahoma and West Virginia technically still remain. The Mountaineers still have to play both of them, not to mention the top two teams out of this group will have to play a second time in the Big 12 Championship Game.

In the Pac-12, Oregon still technically has a chance. There’s also a shot that Washington State could get involved, but that’s a long shot for either of these teams at this point.

In the SEC, Georgia-Florida will be an elimination game and Alabama could very well eliminate LSU, assuming the Tigers don’t lose this week to Mississippi State. If the Crimson Tide lose, they still won’t be eliminated.

Notre Dame has to go undefeated. They certainly have the schedule to do so, but I believe we could see the Fighting Irish lose a game here before the end of the season.
