Where does Clemson football fall in the latest College Football Playoff poll projection following its week six performance?

The Clemson football team completely dominated the Wake Forest Demon Deacons this past weekend on the road, totaling a 63-3 win.

The Tigers were better in every single facet of the game and looked as if they took steps forward as a team Saturday.

Today, we’ll take a look at who’s still in the hunt for the College Football Playoff and our top-10 following Week 6.

Who’s still in the hunt? (* Denotes an undefeated team. All others have one loss. No two loss teams are being considered at this time)

ACC: Clemson*, Miami, NC State*

Big Ten: Ohio State*, Penn State, Michigan, Wisconsin

Big 12: West Virginia*, Texas, Oklahoma,

Pac-12: Washington, Oregon, Colorado*

SEC: Alabama*, Georgia*, Florida, LSU, Kentucky

Other: Notre Dame*, UCF*, USF*, Cincinnati*

There’s a few teams on this list that mathematically have a chance, but won’t be on the list very much longer. LSU, Florida and Kentucky come to mind from the SEC. Colorado is another one. To be honest with you, I’m not sure that a one-loss Washington or one-loss Oregon out of the Pac-12 gets in even with a conference championship unless a bunch of teams lose.

Miami still mathematically has a chance with just one loss, but I’m not too high on them either at this point.

Projected Top-10:

Here’s our projected top-10 if the College Football Playoff rankings were to be released today.

  1. Alabama (6-0)
  2. Georgia (6-0)
  3. Ohio State (6-0)
  4. Clemson (6-0)
  5. Notre Dame (6-0)
  6. West Virginia (5-0)
  7. Penn State (4-1)
  8. Michigan (5-1)
  9. Washington (5-1)
  10. Texas (5-1)

I think you’d see the Longhorns break into the top-10 with their win over Oklahoma. In my opinion, though, they won’t stay there very long. It’s tough to really know where these one-loss teams should go at this point.

To me, I think the first six are pretty clear and you can choose which order you put them in.

What does it mean for Clemson?

Clemson’s biggest threat going forward is probably an undefeated Notre Dame. I still believe that the Tigers will get in no matter what as long as they are undefeated, but you’d definitely like to see the Fighting Irish lose.

Every year we believe that we’re going to see five or six teams finish the season undefeated at this time of year and it never happens. This season won’t be much different. I think the teams that have the best chance to do so are Alabama, Clemson and Notre Dame. I think the Buckeyes will fall at some point.

It will be interesting to see how the rest of this season shapes out, but Clemson football fans have to be feeling better about the team going forward following the impressive win over Wake Forest and how the team handled its business.
