Clemson football freshman quarterback Trevor Lawrence will make his first start today. His demeanor is very similar to a former Tiger football quarterback.
“Okay, coach.”
Those were the words of Clemson football freshman quarterback Trevor Lawrence when he was told by the coaches that he would start this Saturday against Syracuse.
The day has finally come and we will all see for ourselves what the freshman can do when he receives 100 percent of the snaps at the position.
Will he be great? Will he struggle?
I’d say that there may be a little bit of both, but that small quote from Lawrence brings me to believe that he’s got a mentality very similar to that of a former Tiger quarterback: Deshaun Watson.
Nothing seemed to phase Watson. He could throw a pick or make a bad decision and then he’d just come back the next time and make up for it.
In the end, Watson left Clemson football as a National Champion.
I see the same kind of potential for Lawrence.
It’s actually a very historical day for the Tigers. A guy that has the potential to lead you to one, maybe multiple National Titles, certainly has a chance to lead you to a few College Football Playoff bids and even perhaps win the Heisman will take the field for the first time tagged as the starter.
The guys will be looking to him. He will have to be a leader.
How he responds will be critical to the team moving forward. It’s been a tough week with a lot of distractions and drama, it seems, but I believe that Trevor Lawrence’s calm, cool and collected personality will be exactly what the Tigers need to succeed not just today, but the rest of the season.
History will be made in Death Valley today as Tiger fans witness the beginning of a new era for Clemson football: The Trevor Lawrence Era.
