Clemson football officials are mulling a decision over the Tigers’ game against the Georgia Southern Eagles this Saturday. Here’s the latest update on the decision.

Clemson football was originally scheduled to play Georgia Southern at 3:30 p.m. Saturday, but Hurricane Florence forced officials to move the game up.

While the effects of the Hurricane are not expected to be fully in force in the upstate of South Carolina until sometime Sunday, there are many factors that go into a decision like this.

State troopers will not be readily available to and that presents troubles as close to 100,000 people would be making their way to and from the game. That’s including Georgia Southern faithful who would have to travel back to their homes, most likely in tropical storm force winds.

Ultimately, that led to the game being moved up to a 12 p.m. kickoff with television information being announced later this week.

Honestly, officials probably weren’t worried as much about field conditions or even game time conditions. As a matter of fact, the forecast only has a 20 percent chance of rain for Saturday.

But, those travel concerns are definitely something to consider and no football game, obviously, is worth a person’s life.

Overall, it was probably the right decision. Obviously, everyone wanted to get the game in and this gives the teams a chance to do so and then for everyone to get out of the area before the elements get too bad.

As far as TV, I’d imagine that ESPN either broadcasts the game on one of its online platforms or they may even switch and still cover the game with ESPN 2 at noon.
