Clemson football will open up the 2018 season with a game against the Furman Paladins.
The Paladins, a product of the SoCon conference, will be looking to beat Clemson for first time since the FDR administration.
The Tigers, on the other hand, have a National Championship run on their mind.
No one can deny the factor that weather plays in a game, even in a game as lopsided as this one. Hotter days means more breaks and cramps, especially for defensive players and linemen. Rain means you can’t throw the ball as well. Wind can play a factor.
While the weather won’t make a difference on the outcome of this game, it’s still good to know what the day will be like heading into the first Game Day of the year.

Analysis:
Overall, it’s set to be a pretty nice day for the beginning of September. We do have a decent chance of rain in the afternoon, but that’s expected here in the midst of the summer-fall transition months.
It will be hot for the home opener, as it normally is, but at least it won’t be a scalding 95 or 100 degrees as it has been in the past.
If we can avoid the rain, which is actually at its highest percentage chances between 1 p.m. and 4 p.m., it should make for a really nice day of football.
If you’re planning to go to the game, I have two pieces of advice for you:
- Arrive early
- Drink water
Select gates will have metal detectors Saturday, so I’d try arrive a little earlier than normal if possible. Leave your tailgate 10 minutes earlier than you normally do and you should be fine. Also, as all of you know that have been to a noon September game, drink plenty of water. Don’t go dehydrated. It won’t end well.
Have a great day at the game and make sure you tune into Rubbing the Rock for coverage of the game and much more during this Clemson football season.
