The Clemson football team will open up the 2018 season with a home game against the Furman Paladins. Here is our pick against the spread for the match up.

The Clemson football team will open up the 2018 season this Saturday in Death Valley.

The Tigers will take on the Furman Paladins in a match up that most don’t expect to be close when the buzzer rings for halftime.

Each week, Rubbing the Rock will provide you with a pick against the spread for all 12 regular-season Clemson football games and the postseason. This week, as most of you know, there isn’t an official spread on the game, though.

FBS vs. FCS opponents don’t warrant Vegas to give us a spread on the game. So, that prompted us to become the “oddsmakers” for the week and set our own spread. Today, I’ll give you my prediction for the spread, as well as the over/under, we gave you for the Tigers’ opening weekend game.

Clemson Football Pick Against the Spread:

Spread: Clemson -42.5

Spread Prediction:

42.5 points seems like a lot on the surface. Many would tend to give Furman the points with the hopes that the Paladins could keep the game within 43 points. Believe it or not, though, we ran a poll with this spread on Twitter. There, 63 percent of the voters said they’d take Clemson minus the 42.5 points.

I tend to agree with the majority of Tiger nation.

This game, obviously, won’t count against Clemson’s spread record, but I still think the Tigers get the job done. There’s just too much talent and too many weapons for Clemson to not score a lot of points and for the defense to not make a ton of stops.

Over/Under: 60.5

Our over/under for this game was 60.5. To me, looking back at this, it’s very low.

I think Clemson’s offense by itself gets very close to this number. There’s nothing that’s going to stop the Tigers from scoring 50-plus unless the coaches elect not to. If Furman scores at all, we should easily be at or above this number.

So, I’m taking the “over.”
