The eyes of Clemson football nation will be on true-freshman quarterback Trevor Lawrence when he takes the field for the first time Saturday.

It doesn’t matter who you pulled for in the ongoing quarterback competition, it’s clear that every single Clemson football fan is eager to see true-freshman Trevor Lawrence play in a real College game for the first time Saturday.

Lawrence was named the second-string quarterback on the Clemson football depth chart that was released Monday. He was listed behind returning starter and senior leader Kelly Bryant, to no surprise.

While Tiger nation wants to see Kelly Bryant play and see the areas that he has improved upon, they also want to see the young freshman take the field and show what he has to offer.

So, that begs the question: When will Lawrence first see the field Saturday against Furman?

A Defined Strategy…

The coaching staff hasn’t and isn’t going to release when we’ll first see Trevor Lawrence, but I guarantee you that they know the exact circumstances in which they’ll insert the young freshman.

Maybe they’ll wait until the Tigers get a certain lead. Maybe they’ll have a defined time on the game clock where he’ll enter the game.

No matter what the circumstance is, though, the Clemson football staff will have a specific plan for getting both Kelly Bryant and Trevor Lawrence snaps at the position.

If I were guessing, though, I would say that we see Lawrence towards the end of the first quarter or at the beginning of the second quarter.

I think the coaching staff will let Kelly Bryant get a few possessions under his belt and, hopefully, put Clemson up a couple of scores. After that, I think they’ll carefully insert the freshman into the game for a couple of series to see how he performs.

If he plays as he has in practice, we’ll probably see the same strategy, or something close to it, implemented against Texas A&M. If he struggles, we may see the coaching staff take a step back on him in future game plans.

I think it’s clear that both Kelly Bryant and Trevor Lawrence are going to get significant snaps early in this game. The coaching staff may actually play around with a few things in inserting the guys in and out of the game.

It will be interesting to watch, but if you’re looking for a prediction: Like I said earlier, I believe you’ll see Lawrence take the field as the quarterback for the Tigers close to the end of the first quarter or at the beginning of the second quarter.
