Clemson football freshman Trevor Lawrence’s name is already being mentioned in the company of Tiger greats, at least according to a shrine in Charleston.

Is Trevor Lawrence the most popular freshman in Clemson football history?

I would argue that the 5-star freshman is even more popular than what Deshaun Watson was when he stepped on campus. Now, of course Watson made a name for himself very quickly.

But, he earned it on the field. Tiger fans knew about Watson and knew that he was going to be special, but they at least waited until he got on the field in Athens before saying that he was going to be a Clemson football legend.

Trevor Lawrence, on the other hand, hasn’t even played a career snap. Even without ever stepping on a game field, Lawrence is already being talked about with the Clemson greats.

That was on display at Charleston Sports Pub in a Clemson football shrine.

Phillip Sikes, the communications director for Clemson Student Affairs, posted a picture with Lawrence’s jersey inside a case alongside several other Tiger greats.

High Expectations…

That’s pretty crazy for Lawrence, a true-freshman who has never played a career, to already have his own shrine in a sports bar. His jersey is next to Sammy Watkins, Hunter Renfrow and Brian Dawkins. Deshaun Watson also has a jersey framed in the restaurant.

That’s pretty good company for Lawrence.

For him to be featured alongside the best quarterback in Clemson football history in Deshaun Watson; one of the best wide receivers in school history in Sammy Watkins; the wide receiver that caught the game-winning touchdown pass in the National Championship in Hunter Renfrow; and a NFL Hall of Famer in Brian Dawkins is pretty amazing.

It’s clear that there are high expectations for the kid to be one of the greatest in school history.

He is certainly going to be special and it will be fun to watch how his career progresses, beginning with his first-ever college football game against the Furman Paladins in about two weeks.
