Clemson football earned a rare commitment from a California product Saturday afternoon when 4-star WR Joseph Ngata announced his decision to the Tigers.

The 2019 Clemson football recruiting class took major steps forward in the team rankings this weekend.

The Tigers started the weekend by getting a commitment from 4-star linebacker Vonta Bentley out of Birmingham, Alabama. They followed that up with what may be an even rarer commitment.

4-star wide receiver Joseph Ngata, a California native, announced that he would be committing to Clemson football Saturday afternoon.

Ngata is ranked as the No. 10 overall wide receiver in the 2019 class and the No. 12 overall player in the state of California.

He chose the Tigers over Alabama, USC and Washington. He is the first Clemson football commitment from the state of California since Bobby Forbes in 1991, according to the Anderson-Indepent Mail.

#WRU Continues…

Ngata is continuing the trend of great wide receivers choosing to come play football at Clemson.

He will join 5-star Frank Ladson and 3-star Brannon Spector as wide receivers for the 2019 class.

Ngata is a bit of a “do-it-all” kind of wide receiver. He can go up and make a play, but also is good for yards after the catch. He isn’t really comparable to any of the guys Clemson currently has on its roster. Maybe the most comparable may be a guy like Deon Cain, but he’s more of a mixture of different players.

Ngata has the height and playmaking ability to play any of the three wide receiver positions.

I’d expect him to bulk up a bit more, but either way it’s clear that he has a lot of upside and potential.

It will be interesting to see how he progresses as a senior in high school and what he looks like when actually arrives on campus.

With his commitment, Clemson football moved up to No. 7 in 247 sports’ composite team rankings.
