Could Clemson football defensive tackle Dexter Lawrence be No. 1 overall in the 2019 NFL Draft? Here’s why he could earn that selection.

Clemson football defensive tackle Dexter Lawrence is now entering his junior season.

Lawrence will be a part of a defensive line unit that features Clelin Ferrell, Christian Wilkins, Austin Bryant and Albert Huggins.

While all four of the starters for the Tigers have a chance to go in the first-round of next year’s NFL Draft, Dexter Lawrence could headline the 2019 class.

According to many mock drafts, Lawrence could be the No. 1 overall pick in the 2019 NFL Draft.

Freakish Size and Athleticism…

What Dexter Lawrence has, you can’t teach.

Lawrence, a 6-4′ 345 pound defensive tackle, is the perfect blend of size and athleticism. One of his strengths, when healthy, is his foot speed.

That’s the key, though– “When Healthy.”

Lawrence wasn’t healthy for the vast majority of the season last year. Because of that, his game suffered. Honestly, I don’t think he played at anything better than 80 percent all year. For him to be the No. 1 overall pick, he has to be healthy.

Honestly, I believe that Lawrence will be a first-round pick even if he is not healthy this season. But, no team will take a chance on a defensive lineman that is unhealthy with the first-overall pick.

Lawrence needs to prove to scouts that he can play a full season healthy. If he can do that, I think he’ll have a chance to be considered for that spot. Lawrence will be a monster all season in the interior part of that defensive line.

He, alongside Christian Wilkins, will be too much to handle for opposing offensive linemen. He will be a great run-stopper and I think you will see a lot more from him this season.
