The nation’s No. 1 center has yet to make a decision. Could Clemson football snatch him away from heavy favorite Alabama before it’s all said and done?

The 2019 Clemson football recruiting cycle is expected to be one of the biggest in quite some time, as far as number are concerned.

A position that the Tigers currently only have one commitment, though, is at offensive line.

Of course, Clemson will have some returning talent in 2019, but I believe the Tigers will still look to take a couple of guys on the offensive line in this class. One of the “wish list” targets in this cycle is the nation’s No. 1 center Clay Webb.

Webb, a native of Oxford, Alabama, was at The Opening and spoke to Tigernet’s David Hood. Hood reported that Webb said he “felt at home” during his visits to Clemson.

Could Clemson snatch the talented prospect?

The Tigers are already in great position to get 4-star LB Vonta Bentley from the state of Alabama and it would be an absolute steal to go and get another talented prospect from that state from the clutches of Alabama and Auburn.

When you look at what Webb said and the overall body of work of his recruitment, I just don’t see Clemson getting his commitment, though.

Webb has been a heavy Alabama lean for quite some time. He has visited Bama many times unofficially and the Crimson Tide have him as one of their top priorities for the 2019 class.

For Clemson to get him, it will have to be a perfect storm of things. First, the Tigers need to get him on campus for an official visit. If you can’t get him to come officially this fall, you’re not going to get him.

Webb has been on Clemson’s campus for football camp both this year and last year. Through those, he has gotten to know the coaches and I believe that he is being honest when he says he feels at home in Tiger Town.

The question, though, is if that feeling can translate to a commitment. A huge sign of Clemson’s chances will be the All-In Cookout. If Webb attends the cookout set for later this month, I think the Tigers have a chance. If he is busy or chooses to go elsewhere, it will be even more of an uphill battle than what it already is.

I’d love to see Webb sign with Clemson football, but we’ll have to just wait and see what the coaching staff can do. This staff has been known to pull off the unthinkable, so it certainly isn’t out of the question.
