Clemson football freshman running back Lyn-J Dixon is an extremely talented athlete. Could he see some playing time as a freshman?

The rest of the Clemson football 2018 freshman class enrolled on campus last week.

Among those that arrived on campus was talented running back Lyn-J Dixon.

Dixon, a 4-star running back out of Butler, Georgia, joins a loaded backfield with guys named Travis Etienne, Tavien Feaster and Adam Choice.

Despite having a ton of talent ahead of him, here is why Dixon could see some playing time as a freshman.

Clemson Football Analysis…

Lyn-J Dixon is the perfect definition of “all-purpose back.”

He isn’t just the guy that takes the ball out of the backfield. He catches screens, lines up in the slot and does a little bit of it all.

Dixon has great vision, speed and athleticism. When I watch him, I see something special.

He’s not the same type of back as Travis Etienne. Actually, he reminds me a little bit of what Tavien Feaster looked like coming out of high school. He is dominant and runs really hard. He also knows how to let his blockers set up in front of him, which is a quality that many runners today just don’t have.

I think Dixon could see the field this season just as an all-purpose kind of athlete. Maybe he sees some time as a kick returner. Maybe the coaching staff lines him up in the slot and then in the backfield for a series or two. I don’t think that Dixon will surpass Choice or Feaster on the depth chart, but I certainly believe that he’ll see a few carries here and there.

If he excels during that time- mostly in the fourth quarter of games already decided- you’ll see him start to get even more playing time.

The backfield is stacked, but the offense always has room for a guy that can do a little bit of it all. You’ll without a doubt see him in four games this season and I think he’ll most likely end up avoiding a redshirt altogether before it’s all said and done.
