Could Chase Brice- Clemson football’s third-string quarterback- lead the Tigers to a College Football Playoff berth in 2018?

The 2018 Clemson football season is still more than two months away, which means we have plenty more time to analyze every aspect of the Tigers’ roster as we head into September.

The biggest area that Tiger fans want analysis from is the quarterback position.

Of course, the question for most has to do with Kelly Bryant vs. Trevor Lawrence.

With those two guys sharing the spotlight of the quarterback battle, it’s pretty easy to forget that there is another 4-star quarterback waiting in the wings.

Chase Brice, a redshirt freshman, is the third-string QB heading into the fall.

While most, including myself, don’t expect Brice to beat out either Lawrence or Bryant this season, I have interesting question to ask: Could Chase Brice lead the Tigers to a College Football Playoff berth this season?

A Brice-led Tigers Team…

When I watch Chase Brice play, I really like his game. To me, he is a guy that would be a starter at most other programs around the nation.

I mean, think about Chase Brice if he were at Duke, Texas A&M, or UCLA. He’d be a very strong candidate for the starting position, if not the definitive starter.

With that being said, could Brice lead the Tigers to a College Football Playoff? Could a Clemson football team with Chase Brice as the starting quarterback go 11-1, win the ACC Championship, and into the College Football Playoff?

In my opinion, I think that it certainly could.

It’s a testament to two things:

  1. Clemson’s talent and depth at QB
  2. Clemson’s talent and depth everywhere else

I think Chase Brice could develop into a really good quarterback. It really says a lot about a program to have a third-string QB that could even beg the question of leading a team to the playoff. The Tigers have talent all over the field that would make Brice even better and make the margin for error even larger.

Bottom line?

So, the bottom line? Clemson is really good. Could a team led by Chase Brice make the CFB Playoff? I’m not sure.

But I do know that the Tigers would be competitive and a favorite to win most of their games. It’s a great time to be a Clemson Tiger and Tiger fans should be proud to have a team that is fielding so much talent.
