The 2019 Clemson football recruiting class is filled with “diamonds in the rough.” They may not have “star power,” but they’re going to be great players.

You don’t get a Clemson football offer unless you are an elite talent.

The Tiger coaching staff knows exactly what they’re doing, but for some reason, Clemson fans continue to question them or be “disappointed” with three-star commitments.

Clemson picked up a couple of “diamonds in the rough” this week in their 2019 cycle and I don’t think it’s by accident.

Diamonds in the rough…

Everybody loves the 5-star commitment. People love seeing the stars next to a kid’s name. For some reason, though, we forget that coaches aren’t even looking at that star rating.

They’re looking at a kid’s film. They’re scouting him for themselves.

Clemson football has picked up commitments from a few really talented players in the past couple of weeks.

First, let me start with Hunter Rayburn. Rayburn, an offensive lineman out of Pensacola, Florida, committed to the Tigers and, in my opinion, could be one of the most important commitments of the class.

Rayburn may be rated as a 3-star guy, but he is not the typical Florida offensive lineman. He is strong and physical. I really love his footwork and, while he’ll have some things to work on when he gets on campus, he was a great pick up for the Tigers.

One of my favorite commitments of this 2019 Clemson football recruiting class is 3-star defensive end Ruke Orhorhoro. Orhorhoro just started playing football last season and picked up, I believe, 14 sacks. He has quickly moved up every single recruiting board across the nation for good reason.

He is very raw, but the talent and upside is tremendous. Give him a year or two in the weight room and let him get adjusted to the game.Orhorhoro could end up being a beast in College Football before it’s all said and done.

Finally, there’s 3-star tight end Davis Allen. Allen is a teammate of commitment Brannon Spector. Allen could play either tight end or linebacker for Clemson. He is very athletic and he’s the perfect mold to play the position. His physicality sets him apart and it will be fun to watch him come in and compete at that tight end position next season.
