Clemson Football Recruiting: Nation’s No. 2 DT commits to the Tigers
The 2020 Clemson football recruiting cycle picked up its first commitment on Tuesday when a 5-star defensive tackle chose the Tigers.
5-star defensive tackle DeMonte Capehart out of Hartsville, S.C. announced that he would be committing to Clemson football on Tueesday.
Capehart, the nation’s No. 2 defensive tackle and a consensus 4-star recruit, has been an important part of Hartsville High School’s runs to the Class 4A state title over the past few seasons.
Capehart, six-foot-five and 275 pounds, had offers from basically every single program in the nation. He still has two years of high school left could very well either gain weight and become a 290-guy or stay down at around 280 or 275 and maybe even move to defensive end.
2020 class off to a great start…
Capehart has been an anchor for his high school and when I watch him play, he shows the talent and skill of what an NFL caliber defensive tackle needs to show.
From what I had heard, Capehart was a heavy Clemson football lean for quite some time. He will be on hand for Dabo Swinney’s football camp this week.
I think committing this week before the camp is a smart decision for Capehart. He will now be able to visit and show off his skills to his future coaches while already proving to them that he is “All-In.”
I expect Capehart to become a consensus 5-star recruit before it’s all said and done.
He is a guy that has overpowering strength and a motor that never stops. All of that, combined with a great work ethic, make a really talented player with a ton of upside.

Coming into the Clemson football program in 2020, Capehart still has a long way to go before he is College-ready, but I believe he will take the strides he needs to take these next two seasons.
