Could the 2019 Clemson football class have another commit? Word is that there may be a silent commitment from a 5-star prospect.

The 2019 Clemson football cycle picked up a commitment from 3-star defensive tackle Tayquon Johnson Monday afternoon.

The commitment brought the class up to 12, which put the Tigers at a little less than half of what their goal will be for the class (25-30).

While we don’t expect this decision to come for quite some time, we were told yesterday that 5-star ATH Quavaris Crouch may actually be a “silent commitment” to Clemson football.

Crouch, who plays both running back and linebacker at Harding High School in Charlotte, has several schools that he is considering, including Clemson, South Carolina, Michigan, North Carolina, and Georgia.

He is expected to take his official visits this fall and then make a decision before the Early Signing Period in December. Crouch plans be an early enrollee.

Insider Look:

For those of you wondering what a “silent commitment” is, it is basically when a recruit tells a school that he’s planning to go there, but doesn’t want to announce it publicly.

Recruits do this sometimes when they still want to take other official visits, but want coaches to know that they’re favoring them and want the staff to save their spot.

It isn’t a hard commitment and they can change their mind at any moment without backlash from the public.

It seems that Crouch wants to play linebacker in college. Clemson likes him as both a running back and a linebacker. It is said that Crouch is deciding between the Tigers and the Gamecocks. South Carolina has heavily recruited him as a running back.

That could be a factor.

Right now, I’m not sure whether to trust the source on this or not, but I do believe that Clemson is the favorite at this point to win his services.

Unless something changes, we won’t hear an official announcement from Crouch anytime soon, but it’s good to know that Clemson is in high standing with the talented 5-star, whether he is “silently committed” or not.
