Clemson football freshman quarterback Trevor Lawrence proved that he’s much more than “the real deal” after the spring game Saturday.

All eyes were on the quarterbacks heading into Clemson football’s spring game on Saturday.

Specifically, people wanted to see 5-star freshman phenom Trevor Lawrence. And he lived up to the hype.

Now, I know it’s only a glorified scrimmage.

But, did you see Lawrence play? That guy looked like a future Heisman trophy winner.

More than the ‘real deal’

Lawrence finished with 122 yards passing, but he had one 60-yard pass negated from a “sack” that wouldn’t have been a sack in a real game, most likely.

That being said, the kid proved to me that he is smart and will make the right decision.

He doesn’t force something that’s not there, but he is confident in his arm. In addition to being a skilled passer, Lawrence is really good on his legs too.

He keeps his eyes downfield and has great pocket awareness. When the pocket is collapsing, he knows how to get out of it and he does an excellent scrambling for extra yardage as well.

In my opinion, Lawrence is more than the real deal.

He looks like a guy that is going to be a Heisman Trophy winner at some point in his career. I will also say this, and take it for what it’s worth: Lawrence didn’t come to Clemson to warm the bench.

I don’t know how it’s going to work, but I believe that you see Trevor Lawrence play significant snaps this year for Clemson football.

I’m not saying that he will surpass Kelly Bryant, but I’m just saying that he’s too good to keep on the bench. He throws a better downfield ball than Bryant and there’s no question he’s going to be an important piece of the program for years to come.
