Clemson football freshman wide receiver has drawn rave reviews from the coaching staff this spring. Here’s why he could be a leading receiver in 2018.

There’s plenty of talent ahead of Derion Kendrick at wide receiver for Clemson football in 2018.

The Tigers will have assets including Tee Higgins, Diondre Overton, Amari Rodgers, Trevion Thompson, and Hunter Renfrow just to a name a few, that are currently ahead of Derion Kendrick.

While that may be true, I believe that there’s a great chance we will not only see Kendrick this season, but that we will see a lot of him.

Here’s why.

Insane Athleticism…

Derion Kendrick is just a different breed.

He played quarterback in high school and his film reminds me a little bit of Deon Cain. The difference, though, is that his footwork is already leaps and bounds better than Cain, as a senior.

Kendrick is the type of player that can take the ball in for six every time he touches it.

With that kind of explosiveness, athleticism, and vision, the coaches will not be able to keep him off the field.

I expect that we see Kendrick used in both the screen game and in the “jet sweep” forward pass game.

Clemson used Amari Rodgers in a limited role last season and I think you see that for Kendrick early in the year, but then he becomes a bigger piece of the puzzle as we get into October and into the thick of things in November.

Depth Chart Analysis…

Right now, I’d expect both Amari Rodgers and Cornell Powell to get the nod over Kendrick at the “field” wide receiver spot heading out of the spring.

Both of the veterans have waited their turn and I’d expect great things from both of them. That position may, actually, be the deepest in the country. Those three guys are going to do a great job, but it may just end up being Kendrick that steals the show.
