The Clemson football team will hold its spring game in less than 10 days. There seems to be two trends continuing throughout spring practice.

The Clemson football spring game will take place Saturday, April 14 in Death Valley.

Tiger fans will have the chance to see the team live, as well as several new talented freshmen. While it seems that Clemson is having an okay spring, there are two story lines that continue to come up throughout the months of March and April.

Here’s a look at the two trends we are noticing coming out of spring ball.

  • The defense is being pushed.

We’ve heard at least two times that the Clemson football defense has had to run after practice. We’ve also heard several times about the inconsistency in the secondary.

If we can take anything away from this story line, it’s the fact that Brent Venables isn’t content with this defense becoming complacent.

He wants to challenge them and one of the ways that you do that is by challenging them to become better.

It’s clear that the defense has plenty of talent, especially on the defensive line, but the Tigers are lacking quality depth in the secondary. I think Venables is using the spring to try and make that unit, in particular, better.

  • Kelly Bryant vs. Trevor Lawrence Battle Royal

Everyone, from coaches to players, has been blown away with freshman Trevor Lawrence. However, as good as Lawrence has been, it seems that Kelly Bryant has been just as good.

The two seem to be having a battle for the ages. You know that Proverb, “Iron sharpens iron?” That’s exactly what these two are doing.

Both are making each other better and it’s making for a fun QB competition, even if Bryant is the clear-cut starter at this point.
