CLEMSON, SC - OCTOBER 28: Teammates Clelin Ferrell

Although we aren’t even halfway done with the 2018 NFL combine, ESPN took a look at next year’s crop of talent. It appears that NFL scouts are anxious to see the entire Clemson Tigers’ defensive line.

It’s no secret that Clemson has an absurd amount of talent along the defensive line. Christian Wilkins, Clelin Ferrell and Austin Bryant all had the talent to be selected within the first two rounds of this year’s NFL Draft.

Instead, all three elected to stay in school, giving the Clemson Tigers four potential first round picks along the front seven in 2018.

2019 NFL Combine

ESPN recently published an article discussing the college stars who will dominate the 2019 NFL combine. In that article Clemson defensive lineman garnered their fair share of praise. Dexter Lawrence is recognized individually as a “freak” and Bryant, Ferrell and Wilkins are listed among the defensive ends to keep an eye on.

In the very last section of the article, ESPN’s Adam Rittenberg names Clemson as his school of choice if he had to form an entire defensive line.

On The Field Production

While the offseason hype train churns forward, let’s take a step back and look at what the Tigers’ are capable of producing on the field.

Last year Clemson’s starting defensive line accounted for 209 total tackles, 45 tackles for loss, 25 sacks, 5 forced fumbles and 1 interception. This is an impressive stat line for any collection of defenders, let alone defensive lineman.

Keep in mind the fact that Dexter Lawrence was banged up for most of the year. With all four of them coming back healthy in 2018, there’s no telling what they are capable of doing.

I wouldn’t be surprised to see the four of them tally 8+ sacks and 10+ tackles for loss across the board this season and that’s being modest.

Clemson’s depth along the front seven will only aid Wilkins and company, as they can take a breather from time to time.
