Clemson football is ranked No. 1 in USA Today’s “Way Too Early top-25,” which was released on Tuesday, for 2018. Here’s our thoughts on the rankings.

The Clemson football team was ranked No. 1 in the nation by USA Today in the publication’s “Way too early top-25.”

USA Today released the rankings on Tuesday. Here’s a look at the top-10.

  1. Clemson
  2. Alabama
  3. Ohio State
  4. Georgia
  5. Wisconsin
  6. Penn State
  7. Oklahoma
  8. Washington
  9. Miami
  10. Michigan State
  11. Virginia Tech

Thoughts:

Look familiar? It should. Basically these rankings mirror how this season will end with a few minor tweaks.

Ohio State starts in the top-three because they’re Ohio State. Oklahoma falls back a couple of spots because of the loss of Baker Mayfield.

USA Today goes a little bold with Michigan State at No. 10, but I think the Spartans could have somewhat of a breakout year. I’m just not sure they’ll be a top-10 team.

Notably, Miami comes in at No. 9 and Virginia Tech is at 11 for the ACC.

Personally, I would have Clemson, Alabama, and Georgia in no particular order. It will be interesting to see how things play out. A lot for Clemson football, honestly, will depend on how some of the young guys step up into their new roles.

The Tigers will be replacing quite a bit of talent from the junior class and they will need guys to perform at a high level.

Next: Clemson has plenty of talent to replace Ray-Ray McCloud

Clemson should be the favorite to win the ACC and that should give them a shot at the College Football Playoff. Ladies and gentlemen, we are less than eight months away from College Football.
