Clemson football will take on the Alabama Crimson Tide in the Sugar Bowl on January 1st. Here are the USA Today staff picks for the CFB Playoff.

The Clemson football team finished No. 1 overall in the College Football Playoff poll for the second time in three years.

The Tigers will face a familiar foe as they match up with the Alabama Crimson Tide for the third-straight season.

Vegas currently has Alabama as a three-point favorite and ESPN’s FPI favors the Crimson Tide as well, but you’d be surprised by the USA Today College Football staff picks for the College Football Playoff.

Jace Evans, Paul Myerberg, George Schroeder, Erick Smith, Eddie Timanus, and Dan Wolken of USA Today sports released their picks for every single bowl game and the national championship on Thursday.

Here’s the rundown of the expert’s picks for the Alabama-Clemson game:

  • Jace: Clemson
  • Paul: Clemson
  • George: Clemson
  • Erick: Alabama
  • Eddie: Clemson
  • Dan: Clemson

The Tigers nearly have a clean sweep across the board against the mighty brand that is Alabama.

Jace, Paul, and Eddie all have Clemson football going on to win the National Championship against Oklahoma. Dan has the Tigers losing to Georgia and George has Oklahoma beating Clemson.

Erick, the lone expert to not pick Clemson, has an Alabama-Oklahoma final with the Crimson Tide being crowned champions.

Quick Thoughts:

It is nice to see the majority of experts picking Clemson. To be honest, the vast majority of analysts that have submitted their picks have gone with the Tigers.

I think that speaks volumes to what Dabo Swinney and Co. have done these past few seasons and I believe that success will continue to be sustained under Swinney’s leadership.
