Clemson Football: Will Marcus Edmond return this week vs. FSU?
Clemson football defensive back Marcus Edmond has missed over two months of action with a foot injury. Could he return against Florida State this weekend?
It’s been a long time since Clemson football had Marcus Edmond in its lineup.
The graduate student out of Lower Richland High School suffered a foot sprain on the opening series of the game against Auburn and has been out ever since.
Now, it seems that he is nearing a return.
The Post and Courier’s Grace Raynor reported on Thursday that Edmond would make the trip to the team hotel this weekend and that Swinney believes that he is close to being back on the field.
Here’s what Swinney had to say, via Raynor and The Post and Courier.
"“Edmond is going to travel (to the team hotel) this week. He’s been able to really go this week and he’s the most confident he’s been,” Dabo Swinney told reporters. “He’ll definitely travel with us. Man, I just hate it (though). It’s just been such a long process for him, but it’s just good to see a little smile on his face and breaking a sweat out there. He’ll be with us.”"
Thoughts:
Clemson football desperately needs Marcus Edmond to return. That defensive backfield has taken a huge hit in depth and getting Edmond back would be huge for the Tigers.
It has been reported that Mark Fields won’t be playing this weekend.
Earlier in the season, Fields and Edmond were listed as the two starters at the cornerback position. Clemson has missed their productivity and leadership in that secondary.
So much so, that we have talked about moving wide receiver Ray-Ray McCloud to cornerback.
Well, actually, he played on defense Saturday against NC State. In the fourth quarter. On the last drive of the game.
You may see Edmond play this week, but I think he should definitely be back next week against The Citadel. Getting both Edmond and Fields healthy will be really important for Clemson heading into the postseason.

Edmond has proven to be a valuable commodity for the Tigers, making the game-saving tackle against Louisville and the game-winning interception against NC State last season. He provides a leadership element, as well.
