Clemson football defeated the Virginia Tech Hokies in Blacksburg on Saturday. Here are the final stats and analysis from the Tigers’ win.

The Clemson football team defeated the Virginia Tech Hokies 31-17 in Blacksburg on Saturday.

The Tigers improved to 5-0 on the season with the road win.

Clemson football also became the first team in history to beat three teams ranked inside the AP top-15 before October.

Here is the box score, stats, and analysis from the game.

Box Score:

Stats:

PASSING – Kelly Bryant 12-of-21 for 186 yards and a TD

RUSHING – Bryant 19 for 94; Tavien Feaster 9 for 29; Travis Etienne 8 for 19.

RECEIVING – Feaster 2 for 63, TD; Deon Cain 2 for 55; Ray Ray McCloud 3 for 35

Analysis:

For the first time in what seems like forever, Clemson football won the turnover margin. The defense forced three turnovers in the second half, including a pick-six by Dorian O’Daniel that pretty much sealed the game for the Tigers.

Kelly Bryant had an up-and-down game. He threw a lot of perfect passes, but missed some throws early.

He will continue to grow as the season progresses, but he did what he had to do to get the job done.

It didn’t seem that anyone could really break off a big run for the Tigers. Feaster finished with just 29 rushing yards and Etienne with 19.

I think that had a lot to do with Virginia Tech’s defense and how they stacked the box and wanted to force Kelly Bryant to throw the ball.

Overall, it was a strong win for Clemson football.

The Tigers have been battle-tested and have come through the month of September undefeated.
