Defensive line: A

It’s no surprise that Clemson’s defensive line was dominant against Kent State. The Tigers’ front seven occupied majority of the noise surrounding the program this offseason, and for good reason.

It was clear from the first snap that Kent State was no match for the Tigers in the trenches. Clemson’s defensive line alone, recorded 24 total tackles. They were not able to record any sacks, but, that is due to lack of opportunity. In the modern day of college football, it is rare to see a team attempt just five passes in a game. Even Georgia Tech’s Paul Johnson would scoff at that number.

Yes, the Golden Flashes’ ran for 119 yards, but, that number is inflated. When you take into account that it took Kent State 44 carries to reach 119 total rushing yards, it’s not nearly as impressive. Clemson was able to hold them to a mere 2.7 yards per attempt.

This defensive line completely stifled Kent State, however, they will face a much tougher test in their week two matchup with Auburn. The Tigers from the plains have a stout offensive line and a stable of talented running backs.
