Former Clemson quarterback Deshaun Watson played in his second NFL preseason game last night against the Patriots. Here are some of his highlights.

Former Clemson quarterback Deshaun Watson played in his second career NFL preseason game against Tom Brady and the New England Patriots on Saturday.

This week, we heard about how Tom Brady was impressed with Deshaun Watson and how he believed the rookie had a bright future ahead of him.

On the field, the Houston Texans were able to come away with a 27-23 win and bring their preseason record up to 1-1.

Deshaun Watson finished the night just 3-of-10 for 102 yards and a 69.6 passer rating.

Here are some of his top plays.

Here Deshaun Watson, facing a little bit of pressure, finds Bruce Ellington over the middle of the field and the rest is history. That’s a perfect find on 3rd and 1 to keep the drive going and exactly what an NFL-caliber QB does in those situations.

Many people say that Watson just completed a pass and D’Onta Foreman made the rest of the play with his legs, but that’s just not true. Do you see that window that Deshaun had to fit the ball in?

The pass had to be completely perfect, even if it was only five yards forward, to fit in between two defenders like that. That’s a great read and perfect accuracy in the short game from Deshaun.

The biggest highlight of the night came in the third quarter, however, when Deshaun Watson had a two-yard scamper for his second touchdown of his NFL preseason career. He made the defensive end look silly and skipped into the end zone.

The play was originally supposed to be a rollout pass, but the defensive end didn’t bite on the play fake, but Watson proved his value by able to make something out of nothing with his legs.

Unfortunately, 3-of-10 isn’t going to be good enough to unseat Tom Savage, who went 8-of-9 for 98 yards and a touchdown. Savage seems to have taken over that leadership role and Watson is going to have to step up, especially with his accuracy, to be the starter Week 1.

Of course, it’s really hard to do that when you are playing with second-stringers, especially on the offensive line.

The Texans will play the New Orleans Saints on Saturday, August 26th and this will be yet another opportunity for Deshaun to show his school and make his bid for the starting job.
